As a college success coach, I help students develop time management and other essential skills needed to be successful in college and beyond. One of my favorite things about being a psychologist is getting to meet so many amazing young people with such potential. I have been providing therapy to college students since I first began my practice. By the time students come to my office, many have been struggling for months, a year, or even longer. Their mental health symptoms have created a cascade of problems, including falling behind academically. It doesn’t have to be this way! I provide one on one coaching to identify and address obstacles that stand in the way of goal achievement and healthy living.
I have seen so many students over the years. Although they come in with varying stresses and concerns, there are some common themes they share. Common themes that kept coming up in therapy were the adjustment to college, managing adult responsibilities, and preparing for life beyond college.
I realized that many students were struggling needlessly, simply because they were unprepared mentally and emotionally. They had not yet learned the skills needed to master the new challenges they faced in college. By the time students came to me, they had begun feeling defeated by their struggles. This defeat often led to anxiety and depression.
I knew it didn’t have to be this way. I decided to create a coaching program to help college students become proactive rather than reactive. By building mental strength and coping skills, students can learn to face challenges, solve problems, and become resilient against setbacks.
College should be a time for learning, fun, and preparation for adult life. Too often, students remain stuck in unhelpful thoughts and behaviors, which prevents them from getting the most out of college.
Getting stuck can lead to missed opportunities, regret, shame, and frustration. Through coaching, I help
college students learn the skills needed to succeed in college and beyond.
My background as a psychologist and extensive work with college students gives me a unique insight into the problems college students face. I use my knowledge of psychology to help students master the skills needed to be happy and successful in college.
